[ The Kestrel Brief · Issue 03 ]

Kestrel now keeps watch on your projects.

It’s been a busy stretch on the road! Connecting with so many of you at Autodesk University last month in Las Vegas and at Texas A&M has been fantastic.

Here’s what we have in motion:

  • Coming to Kestrel: scheduled compliance checks and 3D model review in your browser

  • See us in Vegas: Trimble Dimensions, Nov 9–11

  • Kestrel Labs in Aggieland: what AI means for how young architects learn

From code check to continuous compliance

The Kestrel platform is evolving into a system that keeps watch across your projects. Two new capabilities make that possible.

Scheduled compliance checks. No more relying on someone to remember. Run your checks on a schedule and deliver results straight to the people accountable for design quality. Principals, technical directors, and QA/QC leads get visibility across projects without chasing their teams for updates.

3D model review in the browser. Share your model through Autodesk Forma and open it in the Kestrel web portal. See exactly where each violation sits in 3D and investigate without launching Revit. The features you know from Kestrel in Revit come along: element-ID navigation, code citations, contextual chat, and issue dismissal. Compliance is now visible to everyone on the project, not just the person in the model.

Rolling out to a select group of early customers. Want to see it live? Visit us at Trimble Dimensions to learn more.

See Kestrel in Las Vegas, Nov 9–11

We’ve been named a finalist in the 2026 Construction Startup Competition by Cemex Ventures and partners, and we’re the only code compliance platform selected. We’ll pitch at Americas Pitch Day on November 10 at Trimble Dimensions.

From November 9–11 at The Venetian, our team will be on the expo floor. Stop by our booth for live demos of our real-time compliance workflows.

Chief Industry Officer Marissa Ritchen and I are co-leading “Why Design Errors Are Found Too Late and How AI Is Changing That” on Wednesday, November 11, 9–10 AM PST. We’ll dig into the root causes of late-stage compliance redlines and share practical frameworks for using AI to catch errors earlier. Add session S-1610 to your schedule.

Code checking in Aggieland

Earlier this month, I spoke at the Texas A&M College of Architecture AI Symposium about “AI, Automation, and Agency: What Must Be Left to the Architect?”

One question I keep coming back to: if we automate the work through which young architects have traditionally learned, how do we help them develop judgment?

I don’t think the answer is making them do tedious tasks just because that’s how the rest of the profession learned. My hope is that AI can create better ways to learn: seeing the consequences of a design decision sooner, asking better questions, and giving these architects more time to explain their thinking. It’s a question every firm faces too, as more of the work junior staff once learned gets automated.

As Kestrel’s founding educational partner, Texas A&M is exploring AI-driven code checking in its graduate design studios. It’s an opportunity to explore how these tools can help students understand code as they design and develop the confidence to question the answers they get.

Industry spotlight: AEC Magazine compliance feature

AEC Magazine’s September/October 2026 issue surveyed 19 compliance tools and sorted them into 4 workflow categories: native BIM authoring tools, drawing sets/PDFs, documents/specifications, and code research platforms. Kestrel Labs was highlighted as one of the few platforms working directly inside the BIM authoring environment during active design.

That matters because code checking has traditionally waited for late-stage reviews. With machine-readable regulations working inside Revit, Kestrel checks continuously, catching prescriptive errors like unrated doors in rated assemblies or missing parameters before packages go out the door.
